CONSULTANT

If you're a natural salesperson who possesses an uncanny mix of intelligence, charm, and organizational skills, Greenleaf Book Group is looking for you.

Greenleaf Book Group, a publisher and distributor that specializes in the development of independent authors and the growth of small presses, has taken off. In 2006, Greenleaf was named to Inc. magazine’s list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in America and the FAST 50, Austin Business Journal’s list of fastest-growing companies in Austin. Due to this unprecedented growth, we are expanding our consulting division, which signs new authors and finds opportunities in projects that are submitted to us for publication and distribution.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating submissions for market viability
  • Developing investment projections and proposals
  • Researching new areas for company growth
  • Educating authors and new publishers on the publishing industry
  • Negotiating contracts
  • Representing the company in meetings with authors and at trade shows and conferences
  • Acting as the liaison between new authors and Greenleaf's production, distribution, and marketing teams
Requirements:
  • Experience working with (and preferably selling to) a highly educated clientele
  • EXCELLENT written and verbal skills
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Strong computer skills (Mac)
  • An excellent ability to multitask, troubleshoot, and work independently
  • Outstanding organization skills
  • A fantastic sense of humor
  • Experience in publishing industry a plus

Greenleaf Book Group has a great opportunity for an ambitious, intelligent, experienced publishing professional who is interested in applying his/her expertise to one of the fastest-growing companies in America. The ideal candidate has sharp instincts for the book business, a deep understanding of sales trends, a strong editorial background, and a desire to work with a fun team of individuals in a small, but fast-paced, client-driven environment.

Greenleaf Book Group is a publisher and distributor dedicated to the growth and development of independent authors. We accept only 3 percent of the submissions we receive, but are always looking for authors with strong content and sizable platforms. Greenleaf was named to the INC. 500, Inc.'s list of the fastest-growing companies in America, and to the Austin Fast 50, a similar list compiled by Austin Business Journal.

Here's what we need:

  • An editor with the ability to identify strong hooks within content, guide authors toward ideas that will perform well in bookstores and other trade outlets, and develop a cohesive theme or market position
  • Experience writing/adding new content to support existing author content
  • Substantial writing, rewriting, and restructuring experience with a focus on the content being valid, complete, and well organized to meet the reader’s needs
  • Able to establish and nurture relationships with a highly educated clientele
  • Experience with multiple genres and a deep understanding of all aspects of the book market, including recent history of bestsellers and popular titles
  • Creative mind with the ability to come up with ideas on the spot and brainstorm with authors and editors
  • Ability to prepare detailed editorial diagnoses that provide critical feedback on manuscripts
  • Skills to manage, motivate, and guide authors
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • A bachelor's degree
  • VERY strong computer skills (both MAC and PC), proficiency with MS office applications a must, advanced technical ability a plus
  • A fantastic sense of humor
