CONSULTANT

Greenleaf Book Group is a publisher and distributor specializing in the development of independent authors and the growth of small presses.  In 2006, Greenleaf was named to INC magazine’s list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in America and the FAST 50, Austin Business Journal’s list of the fastest growing companies in Austin.  We continue to grow rapidly and are expanding our consulting division, which seeks and signs new authors and finds opportunities in projects with potential for publication and distribution.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating submissions for market viability
  • Closing new business to meet annual acquisition goals
  • Developing investment projections and proposals
  • Researching and prospecting new areas for company growth
  • Proactively extending corporate brand through media outreach, networking, and/or speaking opportunities
  • Educating authors and new publishers on the publishing industry
  • Negotiating contracts
  • Representing the company in meetings with authors and at trade shows and conferences
  • Acting as the liaison between new authors and Greenleaf’s production, distribution, and marketing teams
Requirements:
  • A hunter mentality
  • A proven track record of developing and selling customized solutions to high-level clientele
  • EXCELLENT written and verbal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong computer skills (Mac)
  • Excellent ability to multitask, troubleshoot and work independently
  • Publishing contacts and experience a major plus
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Experience in public speaking a plus
  • Fantastic sense of humor

SUB-CONTRACTOR PROJECT MANAGER

Greenleaf Book Group is looking for a short-term sub-contractor (could lead to permanent) project manager. If you are great at managing projects and people, are extremely attentive to detail, and have at least 3 years of experience in production within the book publishing industry, Greenleaf Book Group may be looking for you. Greenleaf Book Group is a national company with a dynamic small office atmosphere. We need an intelligent, positive, and creative team player to fill the vital role of project manager. If you have experience managing the editing, design, and composition of books, we'd like to talk to you.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing the entire production process, from manuscript submission to releasing final files to press;
  • Developing project schedules and communicating those schedules to clients;
  • Tracking projects and communicating with clients to ensure they remain on schedule;
  • Determining printer requirements for each project and working with designers to ensure that complete and correct files are provided;
  • Working closely with the print buyer to make smart decisions about materials and technology usage;
  • Working closely with other departments to ensure that projects move smoothly from acquisition through production and into distribution and marketing;

Requirements:
  • AMAZING attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience in book publishing/production
  • Extensive experience preparing electronic files for press (1, 2, and 4 color files)
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, and Adobe Acrobat; some knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop
  • The ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
  • The ability to troubleshoot and work independently
  • A great sense of humor and positive attitude

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in working with a fun team of individuals in a fast-paced, client-driven environment. Pay would be hourly-based, paid twice a month (15th and end of the month).

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Publisher Seeking Graphic Designer

 

If you're a creative, well-rounded, experienced designer, Greenleaf Book Group may be looking for you. We need an intelligent team player with excellent communication skills and an interest in book design to fill the vital role of designer, printer liaison, and client advisor on design issues. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in working with a fun team of award-winning designers in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.

 

Greenleaf Book Group is a publisher and distributor that specializes in the development of independent authors and the growth of small presses. They have represented more than 1000 titles since 1997, including national bestsellers. 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Create compelling, content-appropriate and market-appropriate designs for book covers and interior book pages
  • Work closely with printer reps to prepare and submit files to their specifications
  • Advise clients on design options and guide them through the decision-making process
  • Work with the design and production teams to improve the quality and efficiency of service to clients
  • Create some marketing collateral, such as print and online ads

 

Requirements:

 

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and other software commonly used in the book production industry
  • Experience preparing print materials for press
  • Amazing attention to detail
  • An openness to constructive criticism of design work, and a willingness to work with a team of people on design concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • 3–5 years work experience
  • The ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
  • The ability to troubleshoot and work independently
