Rationalism, our greatest strength for 500 years, is turning into a weakness. Now, the only way our civilization can sustain itself is by tapping our irrational mind. Now, as we face the challenge of saving the Great Lakes, we say that people have made a series of shortsighted decisions or that we are waiting the right political leadership. What we don't say is that the method we used to pursue our goals - rationalism - is the problem. For years, this kind of looming crisis has preyed on the mind of Charlie Fleetham.
